Old Business Kraig will contact Ed to determine where we are with the surveys that had been discussed in the past.
New Business -NYSCATE Grants Kraig reminded the team of the NYSCATE Grant information that had been distributed by email. He encouraged participation in this process and also membership in NYSCATE. He also mentioned that the NYSCATE Conference always falls on the Sunday through Tuesday prior to Thanksgiving and is a great insight into the use of instructional technology.
-2005-2006 -----Tech Plan The Technology Plan is due for a rewrite in the 2005-2006 school year. Kraig asked folks to send him thoughts on what should be included in the plan. -----Replacement Cycle We are looking to do a districtiwide replacement of desktop systems this summer. This would not include the two computer labs that were recently updated. ----------Handhelds The team felt that it would be appropriate for the district to provide five handhelds per year in the Technology Plan. The team also felt it was important to include the grant application process and require staff development for inclusion in the handheld process. ----------Desktops There are approximately 250 desktops to be replaced. Jalene felt it was also important to look at the printer situation in the district. After a great deal of discussion it was decided that low end laser printers should be incorporated into the replacement plan to replace inkjets in classrooms throughout the district. This results in greater uniformity in printer cartridges and lower cost per page in printing. If people wish to keep their inkjets that are still working, they can do so until they no longer function. They will then be replaced by a laser printer. ----------Laptops There was some discussion about a mobile laptop lab for the MS/HS. While the concept has some merit, there were concerns about support, damage, training, etc. This is still a topic that is under discussion. ----------Digital Senders After seeing a demonstration of the digital sender, the team agreed that these units should be placed in the following locations as part of our update: ES Office, MS/HS Office, CSE Office, Dir of Instruction Office; Guidance Office. The cost savings will pay for these machines in less than 2 years. These were considered second on the priority list behind desktops and printers. -----Training Professional development in technology is considered crucial in the new technology plan. Some thoughts were a series of mini-sessions during the Monday/Friday J-block times on tips and tricks for email, Word, Acrobat, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.. Details of how to implement this are still under discussion. ----------Handhelds This will be part of the grant process described earlier. It will be for two to three days. ----------DANA Training Ed will be providing some additional training on the use of the DANA labs this summer. Details will be forthcoming -----Next Year Committee There was discussion about participation in next year's Technology Committee. At this point, we have commitment from the following along with their stakeholder group: Kraig Pritts/Ed Shirkey co-chairs-Administration Jalene Allen-Technical Support Michelle Wood-Elementary School Phyllis Sanford-Computer Labs Mike Jansen-High School Pam Gabana-Special Education
Phyllis also said that she would contact Trena Pedersen about serving as a community representative.
